Jewelry Care

If you take care of your gold-filled jewelry it can last you a lifetime! BUT there are several things that can affect the quality of this material over time. Follow the tips provided for the best lasting quality.

Day to Day Maintenance:

-Clean your jewelry regularly with warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

-You can shower in your jewelry but avoid wearing in saltwater or chlorinated pools. Salt water can damage metals over time.

-DO NOT wear in hot tubs. The combination of heat and chemicals has been found to cause discoloration.

-Keep jewelry as dry as possible and store properly.

-Store in an airtight or low humidity environment. (The jewelry pouch provided is a great option.)

-Avoid exposure to heavy detergents and cleaning agents. These harsh chemicals are highly damaging.

-Perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, sunscreens, and some cosmetics can cause gold-filled jewelry to tarnish due to harsh chemicals. Apply these prior to putting on your jewelry and make sure to clean your jewelry when you remove it.

-Avoid excess touching and sweating on jewelry. Some body chemistries are especially harder on jewelry. It’s best to take your jewelry off when you workout or sweat a-lot.

-Avoid sleeping in your jewelry. This will prevent it from getting caught and broken or obtaining excess oils.

-After each wear, gently wipe down with a soft cloth to remove any makeup/oils.

Deep Cleaning:

Jewelry gets dirty. It happens. If your jewelry needs a little extra care or has been exposed to harmful chemicals follow these steps:

-Fill up a bowl with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. A mild hand soap works great.

-Place your jewelry in the bowl and let soak for 5-10 mins.

-If it needs some extra attention, gently scrub with an ultrasoft toothbrush.

-Rince in lukewarm water for a few moments.

-Dry well with a soft cloth, making sure to pat dry, not rub.

-Ensure it is completely dry before storing.

Sterling silver is prone to tarnishing over time with exposure to oxygen, salt, and moisture. The best practice is to keep it in a moisture free container when not being worn and keep it free from chemicals. But there’s good news! If tarnishing does occur, it is easy to repair.
